Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals

According to paragraph one, the core aim of the European Union’s so-called REACH Directive [EU/1907/2006 of 30. December 2006], is to secure a high level of safety for both humankind and the environment, including the promotion of alternative evaluation criteria for the dangers associated with certain materials; and to ensure free traffic of these materials throughout the single market, while simultaneously improving competitiveness and innovation. The Directive primarily requires all manufacturers, importers and downstream users to ensure that they manufacture, distribute and use materials which do not negatively impact upon human health or the environment.  The Directive takes effect when, inter alia, the amount of a material reaches at least one metric tonne in any given year.  Pfarr is generally a “downstream user” within the sense of the Directive, rather than a manufacturer or importer of materials. We thus ensure that we obtain from our suppliers the appropriate confirmation that the materials concerned are registered, or are to be registered, within the appertaining timeframe. In order to ensure that our materials continue to be available, we have also pre-registered certain materials ourselves. Where necessary, we will fully register these within the legally established timeframes for registration.
